About the Miniature American Shepherd

The Miniature American Shepherd is a small, versatile herding dog that was developed by selectively breeding small Australian Shepherds. Originally known as the Miniature Australian Shepherd, the breed was recognized by the AKC as a separate breed in 2015. Mini Americans share the Australian Shepherd's intelligence, work ethic, and stunning coat patterns, but in a more compact package that typically stands 13 to 18 inches tall. They are adaptable, loyal, and energetic dogs that excel in dog sports and make devoted family companions. Their smaller size makes them more practical for urban living than their larger Aussie cousins.
