About the Pyrenean Shepherd

The Pyrenean Shepherd is a small, intensely driven herding breed from the French Pyrenees mountains, where they have worked alongside the Great Pyrenees for centuries. While the larger Great Pyrenees guarded the flock from predators, the nimble Pyrenean Shepherd did the active herding โ€” a single Pyr Shep can manage a flock of 500 sheep. They come in rough-faced and smooth-faced varieties. Pyrenean Shepherds are the smallest French herding breed but may have the highest energy level of any dog breed โ€” they are perpetual motion machines with an intensity that amazes even experienced dog owners.
